AIRLINE BAGGAGE FEES

AirCanada and WestJet are two major airlines who have opted-in to charging a fee for all checked baggage, including your first bag.  These charges apply for whether you are travelling one-way or round-trip and are charged in both directions.  So, if you are planning a family holiday this winter to say...Mexico via WestJet, expect to pay $25 per bag per person both ways.  (and it doesn't matter if you are flying first class or economy).

That can add up to some serious dough.  For example, my family consists of 3 people so 3 checked bags equals $75...one way.  Now when planning family vacations, I have to budget an extra $150 for travel expenses.  Why do airlines feel the need to gouge consumers?  Aren't we paying enough in airfare & taxes?

Below is a list of airlines and their baggage fees.  Be sure to double check baggage fees on your airlines website before travelling as some airlines only charge the baggage fee for domestics flights.  If you are unsure, just put it in your budget and if you don't get charged, that's extra spending money on your trip.
